Brent Davison focuses on experience, integrity, leadership and accountability
PLATTSBURGH | Brent Davison, Republican candidate for Clinton County Sheriff, has spent his life in public service and says he is ready to bring that experience to the Sheriff’s Office.
Davison brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience, including 20 years in the United States Army, service with the New York State Department of Corrections, and 29 years with the New York State Police.
He retired from the State Police as a Major after serving as Troop B Commander, responsible for operations across much of the North Country and approximately 420 personnel. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
“The Sheriff’s Office belongs to the people of Clinton County,” Davison said. “They deserve an office that protects their communities, respects constitutional rights, supports its employees, and holds itself to a high standard.”
Davison’s campaign centers on five priorities:
1. Public Safety
Davison’s plan emphasizes visible, proactive patrols, traffic and school safety, marine patrols, and strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement. He also supports community education addressing drugs, alcohol, vaping, internet crimes and scams.
“Public safety and constitutional rights are not competing priorities,” Davison said. “Good law enforcement protects both.”
2. Restoring Trust and Accountability
Davison believes trust must exist between the Sheriff’s Office and the public, and within the organization. He says sexual harassment, threats, retaliation and other conduct that harms employees or public trust will not be tolerated.
“There must be accountability at every level. Employees deserve dignity and respect, and the public deserves confidence that problems will be addressed.”
3. Supporting Deputies, Corrections, Medical and Civilian Staff
Davison says employees must have the training, resources and support necessary to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
“Taking care of the people who serve our community is part of taking care of the community.”
4. Safe Custody of Incarcerated Individuals
Davison’s plan emphasizes proper medical care, supervision, training and accountability within the correctional environment.
“People who are incarcerated are in the custody of the Sheriff, and that carries an enormous responsibility. They must be managed safely, securely, professionally and humanely.”
5. Steady, Honest Leadership
Davison says every division of the Sheriff’s Office plays an important role.
“Patrol, Corrections & Civil all do different jobs, but every one of them matters to the mission. As Sheriff, I will treat each division equally and lead the entire organization.”
Davison's leadership philosophy comes from decades in the military and law enforcement, from first-line supervision to regional command.
“Leadership is not a title. It is a responsibility. It means setting the example, making hard calls, giving your people credit when things go right, and owning it when they don’t.”
“I have worn a uniform since I was 17. My life is centered around service, and I believe that experience has prepared me to lead the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.”
“My commitment is simple: public safety within the boundaries of the Constitution, honest leadership, accountability to the people, and an unwavering commitment to all of Clinton County.”
